Canon Sd1200Is – Good Camera, But Some Things You Need To Know
Found this to be an attractive, Compact Camera with lots of great features as listed in other reviews. I’m not a camera expert, so I won’t comment on how it compares to other models.
Just two important, practical things to know:
1) this camera does NOT come with a Memory Card, really important info to know if you plan to use it immediately on the day you get it. No memory card….no pictures. Might as well go ahead and get one while ordering the camera. This adds another $20-$25 to the price of the camera, so you may want to consider this when cost comparing.
2) The camera is compact enough to fit in a pocket which is great, BUT it is almost too small for someone with large hands to operate comfortably. Also the finish is pretty, but so smooth that it is very easy to slip out of your hands. Using the wrist strap everytime is crucial if you hope to do so without dropping it.
Canon SD1200IS – Great Camera
I previously owned a Canon Powershot SD450 for 3 years. This summer my lens would no longer retract and I got an E18 error message. Rather than spend a lot of money trying to repair it, I decided to buy a new camera. After debating between a Nikon Coolpix and The Canon Powershot SD1200IS, based on customer reviews I went for the Canon. I’m really glad I did. The camera was inexpensive, it’s easy to use, lightweight, and takes great pictures.
I went hiking in the mountains on a day when the sun kept coming in and out of the clouds. The camera would automatically adjust itself depending on how much light the sun was omitting. My pictures look super! I was also to take a nice picture in a dimly lit restaurant. When I want to take a quick picture, I don’t have to worry about fooling with the lighting, the camera automatically does the work for me. If I could ask for any improvements, I would have liked a little more zoom, but overall the camera is great.
Canon SD1200IS – Novice Digital Camera User
I really like this camera. I’m pretty loyal to my point and shoot cameras, but after losing some great shots because I ran out of film one vacation, I decided to check out Digital Cameras. After reading the reviews on the Canon PowerShot, I decided to take the plunge and have not been disappointed. It’s small and easily fits inside my purse. I’m still on a learning curve with all of it’s features, but it’s pretty cool. The on-line manual is very helpful, but I wish it came in a booklet. To find out about the different settings, you need to review the manual.
Sometime when I have the inclination, I’ll print it out. So far I have found it easy to use and my pictures have turned out really nice. I do have a tendency to move the camera when I take a picture so the stability control helps. I’ve also used a suggestion from another user to set it to the Kids and Pets setting to help with subject movements. I have not had a problem with the buttons, but I do not have large hands. I am looking forward to taking this camera on my next vacation where I’ll have an opportunity to try out the beach and aquarium settings. Along with the camera size and picture quality, I really like the fact that I can just set it on automatic or use the different settings. It’s just a great little camera for me.
