Which non-Canon flash units will fit my Canon A650 IS PowerShot and work properly?
The optional Canon flash unit for my powershot is quite $$$$$. Are there any flashes by reputable manufactures that are synced correctly and that wont break me?
Since your A650 IS has no hot-shoe, no external flash unit can be used with it.

It is rare that a P&S camera costing less than about $300 has a hotshoe to attache an external flash. When they do, they are dedicated to flash units designed for the brand of the camera … in the case of Canon’s, if the trigger voltage is over 6v, you run the risk of frying your cameras electronics In the age of Digital Cameras, one is cautioned to avoid buying none-OEM flash units without doing a lot of research.
