Canon 40d Manual
Should i upgrade from my Canon 20d to 40d? or get lenses for my 20d?
I have had my Canon 20d for about a year and half, and i learned how to shoot manual 2 months ago and i have been getting more serious about my photography.
I currently have
430EXii flash
canon 28-135 IS
Canon 20d
SO I am wondering wether or not to just stick with my canon 20d, or get the Canon 40d. Im not sure wether to sell canon 20d and use to money to raise for a lense, or keep it and buy 40d.
Or wether to not Buy Canon 40d and buy a really expensive lense.
My budget: $700 to spend. on whatever.
(i plan on buying stuff on ebay)

REMEMBER $700 is the budget..
This is a darn good question. The 20d was announced in 2004 so it was already old when you got it. In the digital world, new stuff comes out so fast that bodies can be seen as yesterday’s paper once it’s 18-24 months old. The 40d isn’t exactly new, I remember that one coming out around the end of summer 2007.
I think the biggest reason to upgrade from an old dSLR to a new one is for high ISO work. At 200 ISO, even an old dSLR can deliver fantastic results. But when the light gets low, that’s the Achilles heel of the older or cheaper dSLRs. Of course newer bodies have the newer bells and whistles, but I think high ISO shooting is something that truly affects us all.
So if you shoot portraits with a flash, or in good light, this isn’t an issue. If you shoot indoor sports, you are going to shoot at high ISO if you don’t use strobes. Also of concern is that the 40d while a very good dSLR it’s no spring chicken, and to make matters worse, the high ISO takes a hit with the bodies newer than the 40d. The 50d added too many pixels and that hurt rather than helped, same for the 7D. If you stay Canon, and need clean high ISO, you’ll need to skip the all this and the 7D and look at the 5D mark I and II.
If high ISO isn’t an issue for you, get some nice glass and other goodies and keep what you’ve got.
