Has the Digital Camera age affected the price of silver? (see below)?
I seem to remember that silver was used in film (and photography paper?). Does anyone know if the digital age has influence the price of silver on the market?
While I haven’t noticed any significant change in the prices of film or photographic paper, the price of silver in the past three years has gone from less than $5 an ounce to today’s price over $9 per ounce. X-ray films are still processed with silver based film technology. Much of the silver used in commercial photographic uses is recycled. Most of the silver winds up in photographic fixer which makes it easy to retreive.
It is my opinion that the rising price of silver is not tied to industrial uses of silver, but instead to the rising price of other precious metals like gold and platinum, and the weakness of the US dollar.
